Cynthia Tam

  • Cynthia is an ordained minister with the Alliance.

    She completed her MDiv at Tyndale University and PhD in Disability Theology at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

    Her ministry focuses on promoting the Church’s inclusivity for people with all abilities.

    Outside of church ministry, Cynthia is a research fellow with McMaster Divinity College. She has also been involved with Village Eulogia to serve families caring for young people with disabilities.

  • Cynthia lives close to her son and his family, and loves spending time with them, especially with her two grandsons.

  • Cynthia loves gardening, knitting, and traveling. She also enjoys walking and meeting with friends and neighbours.

Tom More

  • Tom's ministry background is in urban poverty and is currently the director of the Common Table's drop-in community.

    He has spent years organizing local ESL groups, seniors ministry, and House Church and generally loves anything that engages with the community.

    Tom also happily participates in preaching, teaching, and leadership coordination aspects of the church. 

  • Tom is married to Karmen and they have two sons, Thomas and Caspian. They are a sporty family and while baseball is their favourite, anything with a ball and fresh air makes for a great day. 

  • Tom is a long suffering fan of all of Toronto's sports teams, a true reflection of his strong faith. He enjoys gardening, amateur handiwork, and coaching baseball.

Emily Crow

  • Emily has been working at the Living Room Church since spring 2024. She and her husband are planting a house church in their neighbourhood in North York.

    Emily is the Associate Director of Spiritual Formation and Prayer with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. She has been working in ministry for fifteen years, the first four years as a missionary in East Asia and the past eleven in Canada doing campus ministry.

    Emily is getting her Masters of Theological Studies with a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Tyndale University. Emily is passionate about discipleship, prayer, and helping others hear God’s voice.

  • Emily is married to Eric, and they have three sons. Emily is originally from the Philadelphia area but grew up in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. She moved to Toronto in 2015 to plant a ministry at York University.

  • Emily also loves to read, but, unlike Bernard, she primarily reads fiction. Her happy place is either the gym or in a kayak in the middle of a lake.

Bernard Tam

ON SABBATICAL
  • Bernard is one of the pastors at The Living Room Church with a particular passion for cultures, missions and the church.

    He is also a part-time New Ventures Implementer with the Eastern Canadian District of The Alliance, where he has opportunities to walk alongside and support new churches and new leaders in the city of Toronto.

    Bernard is currently finishing his doctorate degree in contextual theology at Northern Seminary.

    Other ministries that he is involved includes the Canadian Asian Missional Podcast where they dive into topics of churches, Asian Canadian culture and mission related topics.

    He is also regularly engaging with different church networks and is part of a group of local church network in Midtown called Midtown Collective.

  • Bernard was born in Hong Kong but has lived in Toronto now for over 30 years. He is married with two kids and lives in the heart of Midtown, Toronto. This area has been their home for over 10 years and it has been a gift to live in the community where they are also seeking to form and cultivate church community.

  • In his spare time, Bernard is also an avid reader. Although much of his reading are quite theologically nerdy, he is trying to dip into the world of fiction.

    During the pandemic Bernard took up a new hobby in tabletop games.

    He is also a big coffee geek who enjoys coffee from around the world and especially coffee made in a “slow bar.”
